 Rape Myths

I'm so sick and tired of the rape myth that "women who dress sexy are more likely to be raped" or "women who dress sexy are asking to be raped."

Rape has nothing to do with the kind of clothes that the victim was wearing. Rape is an act of control and domination. It is not about sexual urges. No woman or girl asks to be raped, no woman or girl enjoys it and no woman or girl deserves it.

Exploring the issues of Cyber Harassment and Cyber Bullying

By Rose DesRochers

Bullying has gone into the depths of cyber world. These grown adults are the same children from the school playground that called you kindergarten baby and took your milk money.

Internet users are creating web sites that target other online users. Can you imagine someone creating a web site or blog centered all on you, which says how much they hate you? Ah how special. Well no actually it can be quite damaging.

They post private emails, edited photos of you with offensive comments, hate messages about you, anything they think that discriminates you.

You would think it would be just teens partaking in this online bullying, but it is not. It is grown adults who are acting like spoiled children. Just where does the madness in this stop?

These sites list and make horrible claims about you and even your family. Similar to the kind of bullying you dealt with on the school yard as a child. Internet bullies tease and ridicule their victim. This can have damage on your offline life as well.

Cyber bullies get this sense of satisfaction every time you react to them. It is like a notch on their belt. They are like a rapid dog foaming at the mouth and their bite can be just as damaging. It all comes down to a matter of power, control and domination. They feel in power when they are getting you to react.

Bullies will even group together, send out emails to your friends and if you just happen to be a member of a community or a forum board they will join and create conflict.

The purpose of this tactic is to wind the community members up. Don't be fooled into believing anything they say has any validity. They are also very manipulating in their tactics. If they don't get their way they will attempt to befriend anyone who they think they can convince to take their side, in an attempt to make you the harasser.

Bullies know very well that they can create conflict by getting at least one person out of a group to second guess your character. Once they have that they will in return use that to further flame you.

If you own your own domain, they will even use your isp provider or web domain host’s terms of service rules against you. They provoke an angry response from you to their abusive emails and then they send the abusive emails to your internet provider or hosting company.

All these bullies are is attention seekers and it’s like when my son was 3- and he was throwing a tantrum to get my attention. If you are a victim of online bulling, I suggest that you keep all abusive emails. Even if the situate ends, hold on to all abusive evidence. Create a new folder, and move hate mail and flame mail, screen captures, any thing you have as proof into this folder. When the time comes to take legal action, this will be your evidence.

As hard as it is, try to refrain from responding to their postings or their emails. The less attention you give these attention seekers, the better. Treat them as if they don’t exist.

Every time they point out your short comings all they are really do is pointing out their own.

Responsible adults and your friends will see right through their childish tactics. The way the bully is reacting on a message board will be evident for itself. Every time they type flaming you, they are openingtheir mouth and inserting their foot.

I have been a victim of cyber harassment. They have pulled every stop from emailing all my members, creating a blog about me, getting past the ban I set, abusive emails etc.

I have learned that most people online will take you at face value and not buy into the gossip and the cyber harassment.

Your reputation will always speak for itself. You don’t have to take cyber harassment. Be be smart and don’t reply.

Hope and pray someday that those harassing will get a life and stop trying to bully you around like a spoiled child on a play ground that is after your milk money. The truth is while you are doing something predictive with your life, they are simply living their life, waiting to see your next move.

It all comes down to their own weakness and when all else fails remember that stick and stones will break your bones, but names only hurt you if you allow them to.

Cyber Harassment & Cyber Stalking on Google's Blogger

Have you ever complained to Google's Blogger about defamatory libel content on blogspot.com only to find that they don't stand behind their Terms of Service?

If you have, you're not alone. Countless bloggers have reported to Blogger, blogs which strictly violate their terms only to receive a letter that states "Blogger is a provider of content creation tools, not a mediator of that content."

Blogger refusal to remove harassing blogs all replies on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which was written to protect hosts like Blogger from being liable for illegal material published by third parties on their servers.

Where does that leave bloggers like myself who have been dealing with cyber harassment on Blogger? It leaves us up creak without a paddle, fighting off the sharks and doing our best not to loose a leg in the process.

Copyright Infringement - Ask before you copy

The threat of infringement in the blogosphere is a growing problem, with more and more bloggers unknowingly infringing on copyright it is important to know just what copyright infringement is.

What is copyright infringement?

"Copyright infringement is the unauthorized use of copyrighted material in a manner that violates one of the copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works that build upon it."

Giving credit to your source does not take the place of requesting permission to use material on your blog. Without requesting permission you are infringing on that authors copyright.

With regards to posting articles from national news outlets on your blog in their full entirety, posting the first paragraph, first few sentences, or a quote from the article is fine, but posting the full article without permission from the source is a copyright violation.

Having been the victim of copyright infringement and having helped several bloggers when their work has been infringed upon I ask all bloggers to kindly request permission before you copy anything from anyone's blog. It is only common curtsy.

Just because you cite the source does not give you permission to copy. Everyone needs to understand that. While it is nice that you found their content informative enough to blog about it; it is not nice to just copy it without asking. You're welcome to quote a few lines and link to the full post, but you are not welcome to copy the full post without permission.

While many may not be aware that they are infringing on copyright it is important to know what it is and follow the steps to prevent it.

To put it simply, copyright infringement hurts everyone. It hurts the blogger who took time to write an informative post and it hurts the one doing the copying.

Ask before you take.
